Virginia McKinney

Owner of Jot’s Resort, Gold Beach

Virginia McKinney, of Gold Beach, passed away March 18, 2014.  

She was born in Lavaca, Ark., to Lloyd and Ila Wilson Craft.

Virginia grew up in Arkansas.  

She spent time in Germany, California, and other areas of Oregon before settling in Gold Beach in 1991.

She enjoyed fishing, shopping, traveling, cooking, and doing needlepoint.   She loved to cook and go to dinner parties with those closest to her.  Virginia could usually be found at her business — Jot’s Resort.  She took great pride in her business and made uncountable friendships with people she met there.  Most of all she loved her family — her sons and grandchildren, as well as the many friends she made over the years.

Prior to Virginia being in the hospitality industry, she was a real estate broker for Seven Cities Real Estate in Carmel, Calif. She received many awards and honors throughout her careers. She was most proud of making the Million Dollar Club during her real estate career — back when a Million Dollars was a lot of money.

Virginia is survived by her mother Ila Wilson Craft of Lavaca; son and daughter-in-law Sam and Sheryl Waller of Gold Beach; son Dean McKinney of Grants Pass; son James Waller — nomad; sister Rachael Craft of Lavaca; brother Bob Craft  of Lavaca; sister Ruby Pearce  of Charleston, Ark.; grandson Sam Waller III of Carmel and Gold Beach; granddaughter Tara McKinney of Grants Pass; great-grandson Bronson McKinney  of Grants Pass;  and her two favorite cousins, Helen Wilson Jones and Shirley Wilson of Arkansas.

She was preceded in death by her husband Gentry McKinney and her father Lloyd Craft. 

Family and friends are invited to attend a graveside service at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 29, at Rogue River Cemetery, Hunter Creek Loop in Gold Beach. 

A celebration of Virginia’s life will follow in the Showcase Building, at the Event Center, 29392 Ellensburg Ave., Gold Beach. 

Guests are requested to bring a favorite potluck-style dish.
