U.S. Highway 101 south of Crescent City will be entirely closed to traffic for most of this Sunday, starting at 9 a.m., while Caltrans removes unstable slide material.

“A full highway closure will be necessary for safety, and to help reopen the highway more quickly,” according to a Caltrans statement. “The full highway closure will be in place during the first phase of the operation beginning ... and may last until 5 p.m. with no available detour.”

The full 101 closure, from just south of Hamilton Road to 0.6 miles south of the Mill Creek Campground entrance, is expected to become a one-way traffic controlled section Sundayafternoon or evening once the first phase of the operation is complete.
