Old time musicians from as far away as Coos Bay and Medford will bring their fiddles, mandolins, banjos and more for the first annual Winter Festival in Harbor Saturday.

The event, which will feature a concert and acoustic public jam session, will be from noon to 4 p.m. at the Chetco Grange Community Center, 97895 Shopping Center Ave., Harbor.

Members of the Oregon Old Time Fiddlers’ Association, including those from the area, will perform a variety of traditional and bluegrass music from noon to 2 p.m.

The public is invited to join the performers for an acoustic circle jam at 2 p.m.

“We want everyone to come down and have a good time,” said organizer Rudy Spence.

The event is limited to string instruments, including stand up bass, hammered dulcimer, autoharp and guitars.

The program is free and all ages are welcome. Refreshments will be sold by Chetco Grange 765.

This is the third year the fiddlers’ association has hosted the event for members in its district 5 region, which  stretches from Florence to Brookings. However, this year Spence extended an invitation to members in neighboring counties.

“We have musicians coming from Medford, Grants Pass and Coos Bay,” he said. “Next year we’re going to open it up to the whole state!”

For additional information about the event, including playing in the jam session portion of the program, call Spence at 541-661-1995.
