Loren D. “ Big Wally” Wallace

Wally passed away on Oct. 22, 2013, at his home in Wrangell, Alaska. 

He was 64 years old. 

He was born March 27, 1949, in Corvallis, to Howard and Loretta Wallace of Harbor. 

Wally grew up in Harbor, and graduated from Brookings-Harbor High School. 

He lived in the Oregon area from 1949 to 1980. For four years of these he served his country in the U.S. Marines, then moved to Wrangell where he made his home. 

His commercial fishing life kept him coming and going between the Port of Brookings Harbor and Alaska. His fishing ventures took him many places and he met many people.

In 1976, his daughter Jill Campbell (Wallace) was born to him and Anita Harris (Sands). 

In 1994 Jill married Wayne; in 1995 and 1997 Wally was blessed with two grandchildren: Tya and Tyler Campbell, whom he loved very much. 

In the next year he had planned to move to Mendocino, Calif., to be near his daughter’s family. Even though this dream was never realized his family carries him with them. Wally was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by his family and friends. 

Survivors include his daughter Jill Campbell, her husband Wayne and their two children  Tya and Tyler Campbell; Loretta Wallace, his 91-year-old mother, of Harbor; brother Rex Wallace of  Alaska.; niece Cindy Wallace (Bonine); nephews Caleb Wallace and Craig Wallace. 

Wally’s father Howard passed in 1997.

On Oct. 29, 2013, Wally’s ashes were scattered in the ocean off of Wrangell by his  daughter Jill, family and friends.
