Longtime Brookings-Harbor resident Ernie Akin passed away July 31, 2013, at the age of 92.  

He was born April 27, 1921, in Grants Pass, to James Akin and Aletha Savage Akin. 

 Ernie served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a combat engineer, demolition specialist and sharp shooter.  

After the war Ernie worked in the logging industry until he retired.  

Once retired, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, fishing, hunting, and traveling the backroads of Oregon with his beloved wife Earlene. 

He is survived by his middle daughter Marie; his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. 

A graveside ceremony, with military honors, will be at 2 p.m.  Wednesday, Aug.  14, at Eagle Point National Cemetery, 2763 Riley Road in Eagle Point. 

 Arrangements entrusted to Conger Morris Funeral home.  

Ernie will be much missed.
