Tuesday, June 4 

Fire, 12:57 a.m.: Several 911 calls reported two fires in Harbor — one in a dumpster near Forbes Draperies and one in a utility trailer near the Village Smithy. Brookings and Harbor fire units responded and extinguished them both. Possible suspect vehicles spotted in the area. County was advised of the Highway 101 information. 

Injury vehicle accident; 3:36 p.m.: Highway 101 and North Bank Chetco River Road. 

Fire, 5:17 p.m.: Fire reported in area of Hanscam Center. Harbor Fire Department responded and extinguished a campfire. The transients responsible were advised to do no more burning. 

Wednesday, June 5

Hazard,1:24 a.m.: Chetco Avenue and Heather Lane. 

Possession of drugs, 2:15 a.m.: 400 block of Redwood Street. 

Found property, 8:12 a.m.: Chetco River bank at Loeb State Park. 

Non-injury vehicle accident, 11:01 a.m.: A minor two-vehicle accident was reported. Both cars were off the road. 

Unlawful entry of a motor vehicle, 3:01 p.m.: Crissey Field State Park. 

Warrant service, 6:43 p.m.: An officer arrested a man for a local warrant 200 block of King Street. The man was transported to Curry County Jail. 

Fire, 7:32 p.m.: An unattended fire that was spreading in the driftwood was reported at the south end of Harris Beach. Brookings Fire and Coos Forest Patrol extinguished it. 

Illegal fireworks, 8:31 p.m.: Illegal fireworks were reported in the area of the schools. 

Fire, 9:44 p.m.: A report of flames and sparks showing in the trees, possible due to illegal fireworks near Mount Emily Road. Coos Forest Patrol responded and found nothing of concern. 


Brookings Police made several traffic stops with citations and warnings issued. 

Thursday, June 6 

Recovery of a stolen vehicle, 1:52 a.m.: Three arrests were made on Highway 101 near milepost 353 following the recovery of a stolen vehicle out of Portland. Cocaine and a large amount of methamphetamine were seized along with a large amount of cash and a firearm. 

Shots fired, 9:50 a.m.: 15700 block of Highway 101. 

Dispute/fight, 11:41 a.m.: 300 block of Fifth Street. 

Probation violation, 12:06 p.m.: A physical dispute in the 900 block of Chetco Avenue resulted in one person arrested for probation violation. 

Unlawful use of a motor vehicle, 1:05 p.m.: 1100 block of Ransom Avenue. 

Harassment, 1:35 p.m.: 900 block of Chetco Avenue. 

Telephone harassment, 1:30 p.m.: A resident of Floral Drive came in to report she had accidentally dialed a wrong number and now the person was texting her phone and harassing her. 

Non-injury vehicle accident, 4:43 p.m.: Cape Ferrelo Fire responded to assist with a two-vehicle accident at Highway 101 and Cape Ferrelo Road. 

Bike/skateboard complaint, 5:31 p.m.: A complaint was received regarding bike usage in the skate park. An officer made contact with several individuals and counseled them on their actions. Bikes are not allowed in the skate park. 

Non-injury vehicle accident, 5:53 p.m.: A two vehicle accident was reported at Chetco Avenue and Willow Street. Both drivers involved exchanged insurance information . 

Fire, 9:04 p.m.: Winchuck Fire Department responded to 00400 block of Winchuck River Road. 

Dispute/fight, 9:40 p.m.: Port of Brookings Harbor commercial basin parking lot. 

Suspicious conditions, 10:26 p.m.: Smith River. 


Brookings police were kept busy making traffic stops involving warnings and citations.
