Friday, May 31 

Criminal trespass, 9:33 a.m.: Officers checked for transients camping on Mill Beach. 

Assist public, 10:59 a.m. A caller in the 300 block of Byrtus Lane reported he was backed into a corner of his yard by a mother deer who was acting aggressively to protect a nearby fawn. Officers arrived to find the deer had left on its own. 

Hit and run, 11:26 a.m.: A vehicle was struck in the Fred Meyer parking lot about two weeks ago and caused damage from the front fender down to the back fender. The caller’s insurance company advised her to call and report it. 

Warrant service, noon: A man in the 800 block of Pioneer Road was called to appear in court for a neighboring county warrant at their request. 

Abandoned vehicle, 12:30 p.m.: Fern Street. 

Alarm, 1:56 p.m.: A resident in the 800 block of Pioneer Road called to advise her smoke alarm had gone off. However she was not cooking anything at the time. Brookings fire responded to check the cause and gave the resident tips on how to clean the alarm as that may have been the cause. 

Lost property, 2:29 p.m.: A caller reported a lost passport. 

Assist outside agency, 4:50 p.m.: Oregon State Police requested a backup unit to assist on a traffic stop on Highway 101 near milepost 353. A Brookings Police Department officer responded to assist as no other trooper was on duty in the area at the time. 

Theft, 5:28 p.m.: 1600 block of Highway 101. 

Suspicious conditions, 5:49 p.m.:  200 block of Lilac Lane. 

Panhandling, 7:19 p.m.: A panhandling issue was reported near KFC/Taco Bell. Officers made contact with a man and he was warned. He left without issue. 

Illegal camping, 8:36 p.m.: A transient camp was reported behind residences in the 400 block of Hillside Avenue. The caller was concerned about the litter and possible campfires during the night that could put nearby homes at risk. 

Transient information, 9:07 p.m.: An officer received a complaint of a transient camp near Chetco Point on private property. Two officers went to check the area and located the camp; however, nobody was around. 

Saturday, June 1 

Theft, 6 a.m.: The theft of a motor vehicle was reported in the 16800 block of Crown Terrace. 

Dispute/fight, 7:33 a.m.: 800 block of Pioneer Road. 

Non-injury vehicle accident, 1:08 p.m.: Two 911 calls regarding a hit and run, road-rage traffic accident was reported on Chetco Avenue near Fifth Street. The female victim was not injured. A witness followed the suspect to his home and called 911 to report what was seen. A citizen citation was issued to the man. 

Juvenile problem, 2:37 p.m.: An officer made contact with four juveniles for failing to obey a traffic control device at Ransom Avenue and Fifth Street. They were counseled on their actions. 

Dispute/fight, 3:22 p.m.: A domestic dispute between a man and woman was reported in a local parking lot in the 1200 block of Moore St. Officers made contact with both people and they were both warned for disorderly conduct. The woman was warned for criminal mischief as well.

Fire, 4:48 p.m.: A caller reported a possible out-of-control unattended fire at Fern and Easy streets. Brookings Fire responded to the area and advised the burn was not out of control and there was a permit issued to the resident to allow it.  

Theft, 4:59 p.m.: The theft of two bicycles was reported in the 600 block of Mardon Court. 

Lost property, 7:30 p.m.: 500 block of Railroad Street. 

Theft of services, 7:33 p.m.: The theft of gas was reported from a gas station in the 400 block of Chetco Avenue. 

Theft, 7:38 p.m.: Several items were stolen from a locked vehicle at Cape Ferrelo Viewpoint while the owners were at the beach. 

Criminal trespass, 9:30 p.m.: A male transient was arrested on Valley Street. 

Dispute/fight, 11:18 p.m.:  A domestic dispute between a man and woman was reported in the 15500 block of Winriver Road. 

Illegal fireworks, 11: 56 p.m.: A call advised of a single firework in the area of Del Norte and Memory lanes. An officer also heard it and checked the area, but was unable to locate any suspicious activity. 

Sunday, June 2 

Suspicious conditions, 12:36 p.m.: 200 block of Wharf Street. 

Hazard, 12:41 p.m.: Harris Heights Road and Highway 101. 

Found property, 2:52 p.m.: Fern and Pacific avenues. 

Harassment, 3:59 p.m.: A citizen in the 600 block of Old County Road reported the theft of mail and harassment issues. An officer was unable to reach the suspect by phone, but the citizen will follow up with restraining order through the courts. 

Assault, 5:08 p.m.: 17200 block of Mountain Drive. 

Threats, 7:10 p.m.: A person in the 1100 block of Ransom Avenue threatened to kill a citizen’s dogs. The citizen requested extra patrol in the neighborhood. 

Fire, 7:55 p.m.: Harbor Fire checked report of putrid smoke coming from the end of Wedgewood Lane. This was a controlled burn from earlier in the day that had flared up.

Criminal mischief, 8:57 p.m.: Damage was done to the nets and at least one post of the tennis courts at Bud Cross Park. 

Suspicious conditions, 10:30 p.m.: Hillside Avenue. 

Monday, June 4 

Transient information, 7:29 a.m.: Transient was counseled about setting up camp in the Macklyn Cove area. 

Criminal mischief, 9:13 a.m.: 1200 block of Hub Street. 

Hit and run, 10:08 a.m.: A hit and run victim reported the accident that took place in the 300 block of Fifth Street for insurance purposes. 

Illegal dumping, 11:03 a.m.: Grass clippings and a weed sprayer bottle were dumped on private property on Vista Ridge Drive. 

Assault, 12:08 p.m.: 500 block of Pine Street. 

Threats, 3:16 p.m.: A Dollar Tree employee reported angry male customer said he was going to come back with a gun. 

Suspicious conditions, 4:55 p.m.: A transient male was panhandling and being disorderly in the area of Dairy Queen’s drive-thru window. Officers contacted him in the bowling alley parking lot and counseled him. 

Theft, 5:08 p.m.: A woman called 911 saying she had been robbed at Highway 101 and Zimmerman Lane.  

Littering, 5:42 p.m.: An ongoing problem with an overfilled dumpster  resulting in garbage blowing all around the Holmes Drive neighborhood was reported. 

Dispute/fight, 6:02 p.m.: A dispute was reported between two residents of the 1200 block of Hub Street regarding a hedge. An officer warned one of them for menacing. 

Bike/skateboard complaint, 7:52 p.m.: Bikes were reported in skateboard bowl at the park. Officers were on priority calls and weren’t able to respond right away. 

Dispute/fight, 7:54 p.m.: Multiple 911 calls were received from transients using the business phone at the 76 Station to report an assault. The people involved moved along, but when contacted by officers, an adult female was arrested. 

Illegal camping, 8:30 p.m.: A male transient was reported to be making camp under  mailboxes at Tanbark Road and Seascape Court. An officer contacted him and directed him to move along.  

Fire, 11:23 p.m.: Fire in some wood pallets near the storage facility in the 98100 block of West Benham Lane was extinguished by Harbor Fire Department.
