A Portland-based Vaudeville ensemble will perform June 16.
Vagabond Opera and the Joe Craven Trio are among the acts scheduled to perform during the 2013 summer concerts in the park series at Azalea Park in Brookings.

The first concert, schedule for Sunday, June 2, will feature the crowd-pleasing big band sounds of the Tsunami Swing Band.

It is one of seven concerts planned through September by the American Music Festival. All the concerts are set for 1 p.m. on Sunday afternoons at the bandshell — called “Stage Under the Stars” — in the park’s natural amphitheater.

Admission is free, but buckets are passed for donations to help pay for the artists.

The full schedule for the summer includes:

•June 2: Tsunami Swing Band and the Del Norte High School Jazz Band, a variety of music from the 40s and 50s.

•June 16: Vagabond Opera, a Portland-based vaudeville ensemble that blends Eastern and Western European music styles including waltz, tango and klezmer with a dash of rock and jazz.

•June 30: Cee Cee James Band, known as a “vocal tornado;” singer Cee Cee and her bandmates perform powerful old-school blues.

•July 14: Oregon Coast Lab Band, a returning favorite, this student band and jazz organization from Coos Bay/North Bend performs jazz and big band music.

•July 28: Sweet Town Little, a regional country band that has won accolades in competitions such as Southern Oregon Idol and the Colgate Country Showdown.

•Aug. 25: Joe Craven Trio, the San Francisco-based multi-instrumentalists play American folk, blues, New Orleans, swing, funk, as well as the music of Brazil, Haiti, Ireland, Cuba and Puerto Rico.

Sept. 15: Water Tower, a bluegrass band with three-part harmonies and a style that includes rock, blues, Cajun, folk and country.

Seating for the concerts is on the lawn in front of the bandshell and the audience is welcome to bring chairs and blankets.

The Brookings Harbor Interact Club, a member of the Rotary Club of Brookings-Harbor, operates the Snack Shack for all the concerts.

In case of bad weather, the concerts will move indoors to the nearby VFW Hall, 206 Pacific Ave.

The concert schedule is limited this summer due to a decline in donations from sponsors.

The primary sponsors and organizers are Rogue Federal Credit Union, the Brookings  Area Council for the Arts, the Brookings-Harbor Chamber of Commerce, the City of Brookings and the Curry Coastal Pilot.
