The two bodies burned in a solo-vehicle accident off a side road connected to California Highway 197 in January have been identified.

Brookings residents Leon D. Jones, 48, and Forrest A. Nading,  54, died on Jan. 15 after their truck rolled about 170 feet down an embankment, flipped onto its roof and caught fire, California Highway Patrol Officer Brandy Gonzalez said.

It appears that they unintentionally backed down the embankment, Gonzalez said.

There were no marks on the dirt roadway indicating an acceleration, she added.
