Brookings city officials issued a warning this afternoon advising people to avoid contact with water in Harris Creek and water in the area where it discharges onto Harris Beach after a sewer line broke late Wednesday night. The state has been notified and the pipe has been repaired, according to a city press release.
The city will conduct periodic tests of the creek water and will notify the public when there is no longer a potential health risk. This is the second time this winter that potentially contaminated water has spilled onto the beaches, prompting the city to issue advisories.
