The Brookings Police Department Reserve Unit has scheduled its Third Annual Reserve Unit Tailgate Barbecue from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 1, at Brookings Elks Lodge 1934, 800 Elk Drive. Free barbecue, hamburgers and hotdogs will be served although donations will be accepted.

Funds raised during this event will help supplement financial aid to the reserve unit and offer an opportunity to continue  the unit’s successful reserve program. The reserve program is not funded by the city.

Raffle tickets are to be sold for $1 each or six for $5. Ticket holders must be present to win prizes. Among the raffle prizes are rounds of golf at Salmon Run, with a cart; one night for two at The Mill Casino, including a $40 complimentary card; a six-month membership at Fifth Street Health and Fitness; and service at Oregon Coast Auto Detailing.

The reserve unit thanks donors for their contributions made to the fundraiser. Their names will be added to the sponsor’s list and news release information. Charitable donations can be referred to tax ID 93-6002703.

There are eight reservists, although the department likes to have 10 or 12 reservists on the roster. The program is open to anyone but the department is very selective about new additions. The process includes a detailed background check.
