Gertrude “Maudie” Guimond

Gertrude “Maudie” Guimond, a longtime resident of Brookings, passed away Jan. 14, 2013, at the age of 97, while in the loving care of her friends at the Sea View Senior Living Community in Brookings.  

Maudie was born Oct. 30, 1915, in Terang, Victoria, Australia, and met her lifelong husband, William Edward Guimond, during World War II.  

After immigrating to the U.S. in 1945, she became a U.S. citizen and spent her entire effort in attending to her family. She was a truly dedicated mother, wife and upstanding citizen.  

William preceded her from this world in 1997. She is survived by her sons, Patrick, Barry and John Guimond and their respective spouses, Joyce, Maria and Maria; as well as seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.  

A memorial mass will be conducted at Star of the Sea Catholic Church, 820 Old County Road, Brookings, at 11 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 24, 2013.
