Friday, Oct. 19

Elude, 11:49 a.m.: A 26-year-old man from Arcata, Calif., was stopped for a traffic violation near the Thomas Creek Bridge. When the trooper returned to his car to run driver license information, the driver ran into the bushes. It was discovered that the driver was wanted on drug charges. Brookings police deployed a K-9, but were unsuccessful. However, the dog did alert officers of narcotics in the vehicle. The car was towed.

Monday, Oct. 22

Driving while suspended, 3:45 p.m.: A 34-year-old Port Orford woman had her vehicle impounded and she was charged with driving while suspended and driving without insurance on Highway 101 near milepost 322.

Tuesday, Oct. 23

Driving while suspended, 9:05 a.m.: A 26-year-old driver was issued a citation for failing to present a driver license after he was stopped for speeding. He was also cited for driving while suspended, driving uninsured, and violation of basic rule.

False information, 12:25 p.m.: A 55-year-old woman provided false information to a police officer about vehicle insurance and failed to present a driver’s license after she was stopped for failing to stop at a stop sign at Jerry’s Flat Road and Ellensburg Avenue. 

Friday, Oct. 26

DUII, 9:15 p.m.: Police were notified that a pickup was over a bank on Dodge Avenue near Parkview Drive and another vehicle was trying to tow it out. It was determined that the 29-year-old Brookings man driving the pickup was intoxicated, had no driver license or insurance.

Saturday, Oct. 27

Vehicle fire, 7:30 p.m.: Pistol River Fire Department responded to a motorhome on fire on Myers Creek Road. Upon arrival, the motorhome was fully engulfed in flames. The motorhome was burned down to the chassis. The driver of the vehicle was gone prior to arrival. The driver later walked into the lobby at the Brookings Police Department. 

Tuesday, Oct. 30

Assault, 2:42 p.m.: A 52-year-old Harbor man reported his 28-year-old son assaulted him while they were fishing in the ocean about a half-mile from Chetco Point. It was also reported that the son also broke equipment on the boat and threw equipment overboard. Oregon State Police investigated and referred the incident to the district attorney’s office.

Friday, Nov. 2

Intoxicated person, 8:57 p.m. A trooper located a backpack and personal items on Highway 101 near milepost 327 belonging to a 34-year-old Gold Beach man. After numerous 911 calls about the man being intoxicated and on the roadway, a Gold Beach police officer contacted him. The man was uncooperative and walked away. A trooper made contact with the man’s stepfather, who was also trying to locate him, and released the property to him. The man was located a short time later nearby and the stepfather was notified. The man arrived home a short time later. 

Saturday, Nov. 3

Non-injury traffic crash, 10:35 a.m.: A 23-year-old driver from Harbor was turning left onto Highway 101 from East Hoffeldt Lane when a 61-year-old driver from Smith River failed to stop for the red light. The two vehicles collided. The Smith River driver was cited.

Possession of marijuana, 11:43 p.m.: A trooper stopped a vehicle for equipment and driving violations on Old County Road near Fir Street and the passenger was found to be in possession of smoking pipe and less than an ounce of marijuana. The passenger was cited.

Monday, Nov. 5

Non-injury traffic crash, 12:20 p.m. A motorhome driven by an Idaho woman was traveling southbound on the highway through Humbug Canyon when it left the travel portion of the roadway and struck the rock wall on the west side of the roadway. The highway was closed to one lane until the motorhome could be towed from the scene.
