Ocean Park, an Alzheimer’s care facility in Brookings, invites the public to “Candles of Care,” a vigil to remember and honor those in the community whose lives have been affected by Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias.

The vigil is part of a National Commemorative Candle Lighting – Weekend of Prayer hosted by Ocean Park at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9, at the facility, 984 Parkview Drive, Brookings.

The ceremony will include a candle lighting ceremony and prayer, sharing of fond memories and a recital of names in memory and recognition.

The annual event is sponsored by the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America (AFA) during National Alzheimer’s Disease Awareness Month.

Hundreds of organizations across the United States are participating in this event, offering individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias, and their families, the opportunity to join in spirit and solidarity during the weekend of Nov. 9-11.

As the incidence of Alzheimer’s disease rises and the nation focuses increased attention on this disease state, it is fitting to unite communities in these heartfelt ceremonies, according to a news release.
