Brookings Harbor Community Theater’s comedy “Bed, Breakfast and Broadway” opens Friday, Sept. 14, for a two-weekend run at the Harbor Performing Arts Center in the Brookings-Harbor Shopping Center.

The play – written by Arlen Daleske and Dennis Reece, and directed by Scotty Oka  – introduces a wacky cast of actors rehearsing for their big community theater production of “You Only Die Twice,” written by innkeeper Marge Cunningham (Bj Farris), staged at the Enchanting Dreams Bed and Breakfast, which is owned by her and her husband (Joe Donahue).

When Marge gets word that a top Broadway producer (Geoffery Howard) is coming to town to hopefully “discover” some fresh acting talent, she notifies the cast, and they go into high gear to perfect the “spell-binding murder mystery” before opening night. They decide to stay in character and run their lines as much as possible before the performance. But it’s not easy.

Jack Hudson (Jason Liddell) plays the cat burglar who can never quite make it through the window without getting his pantyhose caught. And then there’s Sally Hendrickson (Kristin Mitchell), who can transform herself into a butler-chasing bimbo with lightning speed.

In the meantime, a vacationing couple (Ira Tozer and Sydney Clinton) appear about a possible vacancy at the bed and breakfast. The local actors assume the visiting couple is the producer and his wife, but in reality the man is an overwrought air traffic controller who desperately needs a break before he has a breakdown.

“Helping” the situation is the bed-and-breakfast handyman (Tony Hobbs) who can’t keep anything straight, including important phone messages. Add to the mix a surprise visitor, Bobbie (Colleen Harrison).

This show is appropriate for all ages.

Show times are 7:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, Sept. 14, 15, 21 and 22, and 2 p.m. Sundays, Sept. 16 and 23. Tickets are $8 for general admission and $5 for students. Tickets are available at Wright’s Custom Framing and Art Supplies in Brookings and at New Wave Video in Harbor. Reservations may be made by calling 541-469-4700 or 541-661-2473.
