Have you voted?

The county clerk must receive the ballots by 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 15, to be counted. Postmarks will not be accepted, so your only option now is to fill out the ballot and deliver it to a designated drop sites at city halls in Brookings, Gold Beach and Port Orford.

At the state and national level, Curry County voters will decide contested races for seats the U.S. Senate, U.S. Congress and president.

At the local level, voters will decided contested races for two Curry County‚ÄąCommission seats. Citizens in the Central Curry School District will decide on a levy to fund public schools.

We will publish election results online Tuesday night (www.currypilot.com) and in Wednesday’s edition.

There are many candidates to consider, but you must resist apathy and give each candidate your consideration and decision.

Information about candidates can be found in various places:  political advertising, which has been quite vigorous in the Pilot and other forms of mass media, including yard signs, TV and radio.

Of course there are always the letters to the editor, but beware: Such letters are biased and they often oversimply matters.

The Pilot has tried to make things clearer by featuring local candidates in profile stories and public forum coverage published in recent weeks.

We do this because it’s expected of us, but also because of our dedication to preserving one of the greatest features of democracy: the vote.

Hundreds of thousands of Americans have died in wars to preserve our freedom to choose, and each of us re-endorses those sacrifices each time we vote.

So, whomever you choose to support – please vote.
