The cold, wet weather Wednesday couldn’t keep the Bruins’ JV softball team from heating up as they picked up a game-two win, 6-2, after dropping the first game 1-2.

Freshman Kaitlin Saphiloff was the only Bruin to score in game one as the Bruins were limited to just five hits during the five-inning game that was stretched to seven innings when the Bruins tied up the score in the fifth.

The Del Norte Warriors were able to break the deadlock in the seventh to take home the victory.

The Bruins refused to back down though as they converted seven walks and nine hits into six runs during the second game of the doubleheader.

Freshman pitcher Courtney Kay was hitting her spots around the plate like a circus roustabout driving spikes for the big top, according to JV Coach Lori Cooper.

“She is pitching really well,” she said. “She is hitting all of her spots and that is what matters.”

Kay struck out nine Warrior batters and only allowed two runs in seven innings.

Kay also assisted her own cause by hitting 2-for-3 with a double, two runs and one RBI.
