John David Poyneer II

John David Poyneer II, 69, of Brookings died Feb. 12, 2012, in Brookings. 

He was born May 24, 1942, on Whidbey Island, Wash., to John David I and Rebecca Poyneer.

John was a long-time resident of the Crescent City/ Brookings-Harbor area. 

He held a bachelor’s degree in Marine Biology. He lived in the Harbor basin on his beloved boat for the last 14 years, until the tsunami of 2011. 

John was a mechanic by trade, and had a longtime dream of fixing up his boat and sailing to Hawaii and living there on it. 

John was one of Jehovah’s Witnesses and was very zealous in his ministry, willing to share his Bible-based beliefs and hope with everyone. 

Survivors include his siblings Michael “Mike” and Paulette “Polly” Poyneer; children John David III, David, Jennifer, and Bethiah; grandchildren Anthony Devos, Jade and Adam and Kaiah Poyneer, Nevin and Zarian Poyneer, and Reese Rivera.

He was preceeded in death by his parents John David I and Rebecca Poyneer, and  son Jesse.

A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. today, (March 17) at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 1208 Ransom Ave., in Brookings.
