Holiday food drive under way at port

Editor:

Holiday plans are under way at the Port of Brookings Harbor and to kick things off is our food drive for our local food bank. November 1 – December 22.

We have a huge Teddy bear and his stocking full of goodies up for grabs!

There are two ways to enter:

Bring your donation of non-perishable food items to the Port store, get an entry.

Bring your receipt from any of our Port merchants and get an entry.

You can enter as many times as you’d like, one entry per item and/or receipt.

The Port store is open Tuesday-Friday 10-4, Saturday, 11-4. Call 541-661-1187 for more information.

Drawing will be held December 23.

Organizations have been very generous

Editor:

Recently it was my pleasure to represent Oasis Shelter Home at two presentations of gifts for the House.

First with the Curry County Cruisers. They presented checks to a number of local charities. The second was from Salmon Run golf course.

Both organizations have been very generous to us in the past, as well.

We really appreciate their care and concern. Our deepest heartfelt thanks to them for their generosity.

vice president, Ex. Board

Pilot’s policy on denigrating words?

Editor,

Once upon a time the Pilot had a policy regarding letters denigrating our elected officials: They were not published.

Apparently this policy either did not exist, no longer exists, or Mr. West (Pilot, Oct. 22) managed to circumvent it.

To call our president a murderer and a war criminal is really blatant, and in some countries, doing so would be considered treasonable behavior. Fortunately for Mr. West, our Constitution allows us the freedom to speak our minds. Whether or not Mr. West should have done so in this manner is problematical, however!
