FIREWORKS DRIVE $1,200 SHORT

The Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 757, sponsors of 4th of July fireworks at the Port of Brookings-Harbor, are $1,200 short of their goal.

Not to worry, says Chapter President Jerry Hartzell.

Were confident we will be able to raise the money this weekend, he said.

Hartzell told The Pilot Friday that the chapter was $1,200 short of their goal of $12,000 for this years fireworks show.

Hartzell said part of the shortage was that the $750 pledged by the city of Brookings wont be available until Wednesday.

We may have to use that for next years fireworks, he said.

This is the third year the Vietnam Veterans in the area have sponsored the 4th of July fireworks at the Port.

Hartzell said veterans will be manning collection tables at Fred Meyer and Rays Foods No. 1 over the weekend.

Donors can deposit fireworks funds in the Vietnam Veterans of America account at either of the Chetco Federal Credit Union offices in Brookings and Harbor, and contributions can be sent by mail to: Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 757, Post Office Box 4056, Brookings, OR 97415.

The members of Chapter 757 have become an integral part of the Brookings-Harbor community since they were chartered four years ago, posting American flags along Highway 101 on national holidays and taking an active part in many community activities.

The chapter has been named the outstanding chapter in Oregon for three years and this year was named the outstanding chapter in the Northwest. They have been nominated for national recognition.
