A Cave Junction man was found dead in his bed at the Curry County Jail on Wednesday.

Kelly Dale Gibbons, 36, was found dead at 6 a.m. by Deputies Joel Hensley and Mark Furler.

He was arrested on Sept. 28 and charged with violation of a restraining order, fourth-degree assault, resisting arrest and criminal trespass. He was awaiting trial.

The cause of death has not been determined, but the investigation so far has revealed no criminal activity, said Sgt. Rick Carlton, Oregon State Police investigator.

Gibbons was sharing a cell with another inmate. Authorities would not release his name.

Curry County Sheriffs Capt. Mark Metcalf said that Gibbons cell mate reported that he heard him snoring after lights out at 11 p.m.

Inmates are visually checked by deputies every hour, Metcalf said. Gibbons was not on suicide watch.

An autopsy was performed Thursday in Central Point. Results will be released next week.
