Erma J. LeClair

Erma J. LeClair, 88, Gold Beach, died Nov. 19, 2000, at her home.

She was born Jan. 29, 1912, in Riverside, Calif., the daughter and youngest child of James and Mary L. Barrington.

While she was in grade school, the family moved to Bandon. She attended grade school and two years of high school in Bandon and then moved to Jerome, Ariz., where she graduated from high school.

She worked as a telephone operator for Bell Telephone Co. before her marriage to Ralph LeClair on Nov. 8, 1929, in Prescott, Ariz.

They moved to Curry County in 1930 and built a home on the Squaw Valley-Cedar Fork Road in 1941.

They were active in the Ophir Grange. During World War II, Mrs. LeClair worked with the Red Cross nursing program.

She enjoyed quilt making, knitting and reading.

Survivors are daughter Marjorie J. Barrett, Brookings; son James R. LeClair, Gold Beach.

Also surviving are five grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and numerous other relatives.

Preceding her in death was her husband, infant twin sons Ronald and Ralph, grandson Robert, great-grandson James, three brothers and two sisters.

Visitation will be Nov. 24 from 10 a.m. to noon.

Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. at Scantlins Mortuary, No. 2 Ross Road, Brookings.

Rev. Curt Fox will officiate at the funeral service.

Graveside services will follow at 3:30 p.m. at Rogue River Cemetery in Gold Beach.

Rev. Don McKay will officiate at the graveside service.

Arrangements are under the direction of Scantlins Brookings Mortuary Chapel.
