Maxine Kay Thomas

Maxine Kay Thomas, 81, Salem, died March 1, 2001, in Salem of natural causes.

She was born Nov. 29, 1919, in Stillwell, Okla.

She graduated from high school in Stillwell and attended Northwestern College in Tulsa, Okla.

After graduating, she married. She and her husband lived in Okmulgee, Okla.; Los Angeles; Tablequah, Okla.; Bell Gardens, Calif; Downey, Calif.; Buena Park, Calif.; Riverside, Calif.; and Brookings. In July of 2000, she moved to Salem.

She worked as a safety department manager at Downey Savings and Loan.

She was a member of the Church of Christ. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, crafts, painting and crocheting.

Survivors are her companion William H. Graham M.D.of Brookings; daughters Carol Kay Nash of Granite Bay, Calif., Barbara L. Benson and Judy Kidney, both of Salem; son Tom Thomas of La Mirada, Calif.; sisters Christine Crass and Jean Tuttle, both of Tulsa, Okla.; brother Bill Kay of Wellington, Okla.

Also surviving are seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Private family services will be held.
