More than 200 dressed in the finest garb they could find when they attended the 2001 Brookings-Harbor High School junior class prom Saturday night.

As participants registered and paid admission, they cast their vote for who they would like to see crowned prom king and queen for the event themed From This Moment On.

Ballots were taken to a private location, the bottom of the stairwell leading to the gym balcony, where Jacque Thom and Denise Rogers concluded that the winners were Shaun Bavaro and Liz Kroy.

However, no students knew who the winners were until after the grand march. The grand march was where each couple was introduced, giving parents and friends a chance to take a picture.

The king and queen were chosen from among the court of juniors and seniors.

Senior princesses were Tarinn Smith, Tera Alcorn, Tiffany Wales and Miranda Matson.

Senior princes were Kevin Van Hoesen, Robert Tribur, Jason Caster and Steven Robinson.

Junior princesses were Shelby LaVelle, Lindsey Wood, Jessica Andrews and Holy McVay.

Junior princes were Justin Cox, Brock Olson, BJ Whirry and Ben Donnelly.

Dance music and lights were provided by Rose City Music of Portland. Prom photos were taken by Newcomb Photography in Grants Pass.

Students and parents brought refreshments.

The biggest event, sponsored by the junior class, cost more than $5,500. It is unknown how much the class made, said Karissa Hayes, junior class president.

The class of 2002 began fundraising for the event since its freshman year, Hayes said. Now that the prom is done, the next project the class must contend with is its graduation in a year.

Hayes said juniors in the leadership class and other class members spent about a month making the decorations in students homes. Decorating the gym began Thursday night.

Although the dance is past, its not over yet, Hayes said. Class members will be thanking those who helped make the event possible.
