The Curry Coastal Pilots Web site was honored with second place among weekly newspapers in statewide awards announced Friday at the Oregon Newspaper Publishers Association convention in Welches.

The Pilots Web site is available at www.currypilot.com and carries highlights of news from The Pilot, all The Pilots classified ads, links to local information elsewhere on the internet, and a special E-Mail White Pages of area e-mail addresses.

First place among weekly newspaper Web sites went to the News-Register of McMinnville, which supplies the Web site frame for The Pilot, while third place went to the News-Guard of Lincoln City.

The Pilots Web site attracts an average of 750 visitor sessions every day, and more than 5,000 unique visitors every month, according to Publisher Charles Kocher.

The Pilot has had local news and information on the Web for more than five years, and it is gratifying to know that our site is one of the best in Oregon, Kocher said. We continue to strive to make The Pilots Web site just like the newspaper: the best available source of local news and information.

Among the latest features to be added to The Pilots Web site are an interactive community calendar where people may post upcoming meetings and events, and links to coastal weather information and surf conditions, including wave predictions for the coming week.

Fifty-nine out of ONPAs 89 members participated in the annual Better Newspaper Contest. Entries were judged by members of the West Virginia Press Association.
