Holiday shopping starts today in Brookings

Today’s (Nov. 11) 48th annual Brookings-Harbor Community Christmas Bazaar will have plenty of familiar faces as well as new vendors.

According to organizer Vangie Andreason, there are 104 vendors from throughout the Pacific Northwest and California filling the Azalea Middle School gym and the nearby Brookings-Harbor High School cafeteria.

Plus there are booths in the hallway between the gym and the exit closest to the cafeteria. A couple of vendors plan to set up in the cafeteria courtyard.

The bazaar has traditionally offered gourds, cards, candies, woodworking, crocheted items and other handcrafted items.

Booths will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Parking is available near the gym on Pacific Avenue and behind the high school on Easy Street. Admission is free.

The event is sponsored by the Brookings Nite Extension Group. Andreason said organizers have decided to keep it going until the 50th annual bazaar in 2019 then call it quits, unless someone else can take it over.

In addition, shoppers can check out the bazaar across Pacific Avenue in the Brookings Presbyterian Church fellowship hall. This bazaar began Friday and continues from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. today.

Book lovers can also visit the Friends of the Library book sale from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Chetco Community Public Library.

The final day of the sale is from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 12, when everything that can fit in a grocery bag will be sold for $2.
