Bruins, Panthers conclude district action


The Brookings-Harbor cross country team finished last out of a five-team field at the 4A-3 Far West League Championships at Tugman State Park Thursday afternoon.

Sophomore Zachary Abblitt led the Bruins with a 11th-place finish in 18:08.89.

Juniors Mason Beeman (19:20.37) and Andrew Enos (19:24.51) finished 24th and 25th respectively.

Freshman Christian Steendahl wasn’t far behind in 27th with a time of 19:49.66.

Sophomore Aidan Zellmer came in at 30th, senior Ryan Steendahl at 32nd and freshman Daniel Strom rounded out the rear at 35th.

Senior Isaac Griffes from Siuslaw was the individual winner with a time of 16:57.12, 14 seconds ahead of the closest runner-up.

Brookings-Harbor finished with 116 points, while Siuslaw took the team title with 28.

Gold Beach

The Gold Beach boys cross country team was led by junior Brycen Pitchford, who finished 18th with a time of 18:51.23 at the 3A/2A/1A-SD6 District 6 Championships at the Valley of the Rogue State Park Thursday afternoon.

Junior Bailey Pitchford came in at 26th overall at 19:59.36, followed by sophomore Tandy Martin (21:01.41) in 36th place. Senior Dawson Martin finished 62nd with a time of 26:02.42.

On the girls side, senior Bethy Myers, the sole runner on the varsity team, finished 9th with a time of 22:49.05.

In the girls junior varsity, freshman Anna McCann took first after clocking in at 24:11.84.
