Brookings Harbor Friends of Music hosts the Rastrelli Cello Quartet at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 15, in the sixth concert of the 2017-18 season.
The quartet has entertained audiences with its renderings of nontraditional programming since 2002.
Kira Kraftzoff, founder and artistic director, Kirill Timofeev, Misha Degtjareff and Sergio Drabkin formed the ensemble with a mission to perform music “between the genres.” They perform the works by Bach, Saint-Saens and Tchaikovsky along with George Gershwin, Dave Brubeck and Leroy Anderson.
Russians by birth and training, but now based in Germany, the quartet has performed at most of the major European concert halls, including venues in Munich, Vienna, and St. Petersburg.
The Quartet currently has seven recordings on the Solo Musica, TonArt, Manchester and Genuin labels. In 2009, the quartet’s album “Cello in Classic” was nominated for a Russian Grammy and was given a second prize award.
Their program for the Brookings concert, titled “From Brahms til Beatles,” includes works by Brahms, Tchaikovsky, Grieg, the Beatles, Paul Desmond and others.
The concert will be at the Brookings Seventh-day Adventist Church at 102 Park Ave. Adult tickets are $20. Season tickets are also available. Students younger than 18 are admitted free.
Tickets may be purchased at the door, or at Wright’s Custom Framing and Art Supplies.
