Lady Bruins rack up another road victory

The Brookings-Harbor high school girls basketball team defeated the St. Bernard's Crusaders, 63-44 yesterday in Eureka, CA.

Point guard Drew Farmer scored 15 points, including nailing four 3-pointers, and junior guard Iva Hart scored 15 points as well, seven of those in a first quarter that saw the Lady Bruins double up the Crusaders, 22-11.

Typical of how Brookings-Harbor has played this year, the Lady Bruins shared the ball and played stifiling team defense. Nine different Lady Bruins scored on the night and they held St. Bernard's offense in check, allowing just 18 points in the first half.

"We're not big at all, but we are very athletic," Brookings-Harbor head coach Chris Schofield said before Tuesday's practice.

"When we're rolling defensively it creates offense for us."

Senior guards Mallory McDonald and Francesca Farr scored 10 and 9 points, respectively, as Brookings-Harbor tallied an impressive 44 points in the first half alone.

"In the first half we played as good as we've played all year," Schofield proclaimed about his team's complete performance.

"They played really hard, rotated well, and did a lot of good things out there."

Coach Schofield is especially happy with how well the Lady Bruins are playing as a team.

"Who's putting points on the board varies from game to game," he said.

"This has been a really unselfish team. When someone is hot they will find them the ball."

The Lady Bruins (17-2, 8-2) have now won nine of their past 10 games and host Siuslaw Friday night for their last regular season home game of the season.
