The Azalea Middle School 8th-grade girls basketball team recorded two come-from-behind victories to win the 41st Annual Crescent City Jaycees AA basketball tournament on Saturday.

The first game of the tournament was a 47-20 blow-out win over Fort Bragg, Head Coach Lori Cooper said.

In the semi-finals, the Bruins faced Kelseyville and found themselves down 20-30 at the half. The Bruins outscored Kelseyville 23-10 in the second half to advance to the finals against Jacoby Creek where a slow first half found them behind at the half again.

The Bruins used solid defensive pressure in the fourth quarter to outscore Jacoby Creek 16-4 and win the championship 31-27.

"The girls played well," Cooper said. "It was a sweet feeling to bring home the championship banner to hang in the gym."

Kayla Watson and Malia Leddy were nominated to the All-Tournament Team while Abby Farmer was named as the Most Valuable Player of the tournament.
