The Brookings-Harbor Mavericks utilized solid pitching and run production to win three games straight and bring home the Babe Ruth Southern Oregon State baseball championship trophy last Saturday.

"It's been seven or eight years since a team from Brookings has won the Babe Ruth state tournament," Head Coach Keith Wallin said. "We're pretty excited to be headed to the regional tournament in Klamath Falls."

The Mavericks do advance to the regional tournament beginning Tuesday and culminating Saturday.

The Mavericks won the first game 6-4 over Klamath Falls and built on the momentum from that game to win against the Siskiyou Jaxx in the semi-finals 15-7.

The Jaxx came back through the losers bracket to face the Mavericks again and the Mavericks followed the pitching of Chandler Dodd into victory.

"It was one of the best baseball games I've ever been a part of," Wallin said. "We put so much effort into improving our defense and pitching and it all culminated in this game."

The Mavericks first game of the tournament will be against North Washington at 2 p.m. on Tuesday.

The play again at 2 p.m. on Wednesday against Wyoming, 11:30 a.m. on Thursday against South Washington and their final game of pool play is against Idaho at 2 p.m. on Friday.

The single-elimination tournament will pit the number one and two teams from pool play in a single elimination tournament on Saturday and Sunday.
