It took them a little while to get rolling, but when the train finally got out of the station nothing - not even the mighty Warriors of Del Norte High School - could stand in the way of the bruising Lady Bruins.
The first game of the doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon was a close battle with the Bruins scoring two runs early in the game while allowing the Warriors to score just one to claim the victory 2-1.
"It's very nice," Head Coach Steve Bonde said. "We played solid defense and Hannah Goergen pitched a solid game. We just couldn't seem to get the bats going."
Getting the bats going wasn't a problem for the Lady Bruins in the second game as they rode multiple hits to a five-run lead in the first inning that they never relinquished on their way to a 14-4 finish.
"We finally hit the ball like we can hit the ball," Bonde said, "and we kept playing great defense."
Hannah Goergen pitched the first game with three strikeouts and gave up just one run.
In the second game, Courtney Kay started the game and tallied one strikeout, but, according to Bonde, she struggled with her control and was relieved by Goergen in the third inning after giving up three runs.
What Kay lacked in pitching control she made up for when she was at the plate, batting 1.000 in the game with two doubles, 2 RBI and three runs.
"In her last at bat," Bonde said, "she got on with a walk, but then had great base running skills."
According to Bonde, Alaura Marrington bounced out of a recent hitting slump and hit 3-for-4 with 3 RBIs, and double and one run scored.
"We played much better ball," Bonde said. "Our defense was much better all the way around. (The Warriors) had some good hits, but we just played defense; it was great."
The Bruins travel to Coquille on Friday for their last non-league game before regular season begins.
