The JV baseball team used a pair of convincing wins over the Rogue River Chieftains Saturday to improve to 3-0 on the season.

In game one, the Bruins were able to outlast the Chieftains in a marathon game for the 18-9 win.

While the bats prevailed in game one, pitching was the answer in game two as the Bruins blanked the Chieftains 17-0.

andquot;We're getting better every game,andquot; said Coach Keith Wallin. andquot;We've been working a lot on the fundamentals and swinging the bat.andquot;

Several Bruins swung the bat well in game one, with Blake Vaughn and Patrick Carper getting three hits apiece and Kenton Bansemer and Joey LaThorpe getting two each.

Vaughn also knocked in five runs while Carper batted in three.

Carper, LaThorpe and Vaughn also combined forces on the mound to hold the Chieftains.

In game two, it was Bansemer who blanked the Chieftains with a one-hit shutout.

andquot;He was dominant,andquot; said Wallin. andquot;He's pretty intimidating up there with his 6-foot-6-inch frame.andquot;

Bansemer also went 3-for-4 from the plate with four RBIs.

Carper also racked up three hits and three RBIs while Jordan Nelson contributed two hits and LaThorpe scored three runs on the afternoon.

andquot;For being such a young pitching staff, we've been phenomenal,andquot; said Wallin.

Clutch hits and stingy pitching helped lift the Bruins over Del Norte, 4-3, for their first win of the year on Wednesday, March 14.

In the seventh inning, Tommy Dairy hit a double that knocked in Vaughn for the game-winning run.

Dairy led the Bruins with two hits and two RBIs on the day while Carper, LaThorpe, Tony Verdugo and Jacob Eszlinger all had one hit apiece.

The next game for the JV Bruins will be at home against Marshfield on Thursday, March 22, at 4 p.m.
