JV BRUINS HANDED FIRST LOSSES BY WARRIORS

After starting the season 4-0, the JV baseball team dropped their first two games of the year in a Saturday doubleheader against the Del Norte Warriors.

andquot; We just didn't play real well, but they are young, andquot; said Coach Keith Wallin.

Game one proved to be a pitcher's nightmare, as both teams racked up the runs, with the Warriors coming out on top 18-9.

The Bruins had their big inning in the bottom of the fifth, started off by a two RBI double by Fred Corpening.

Corpening got knocked in two batters later as Patrick Carper ripped a triple to the wall and then Kenton Bansemer capped off the scoring with a two-run homer.

But the Bruin lead didn't last long as the Warriors tallied seven runs in the top of the sixth, giving them the lead for good.

Bansemer and Corpening each had three-hit games.

Game two was much more one-sided than game one, with the Warriors dominating 13-1 in five innings.

andquot; We gave so much in the first game that we were just burned out in the second, andquot; said Wallin.

The Warriors scored early and often in game two, scoring four runs in the first, one in the second, one in the third and seven in the fourth.

The Bruins scored their lone run of the game in the top of the fifth.

Corpening led off the inning with a bunt single, stole second, and then advanced to third on a throwing error.

Carper then used a sacrifice fly to center field to bring in Corpening.

Bansemer, Corpening and Blake Vaughn were the only Bruins to record hits in game two.

The JV Bruins have a lengthy break and resume play on Saturday, April 7, with a home doubleheader against Hidden Valley starting at noon.
