In their final outing of the summer ball season, the Senior Babe Ruth Bruins beat Horizon of Roseburg 3-2 in the bottom of the ninth inning.

With two outs in the ninth and the score tied 2-2, Joey LaThorpe drew a walk and gave the Bruins hope to end the game without going into extra innings.

Brian Wiggins then hit a hard ground ball that went under the second baseman's glove and allowed LaThorpe to make his way to third base.

With the winning run standing on third, Bobby Hanson stepped up to the plate and smoked a single into right field for the winning base hit.

Tyler Parke pitched a complete game gem, striking out 10 and only allowing two hits.

Parke had a no-hitter going into the eighth when Horizon got their first hit on a bunt single.

Hanson saved a hit and possibly a run in the second inning as he made a diving catch in right field to rob a Horizon hit.

Horizon scored first in the top of the third inning with a pair of walks, a pass ball and an error.

The Bruins scored in the fourth inning without a hit, as Horizon walked the bases loaded and then a wild pitch scored Parke from third.

Both teams were hitless until Derek Nelson and John Kennedy recorded singles for the Bruins in the bottom of the sixth, although they couldn't manufacture any runs.

The Bruins took the lead in the seventh as Patrick Carper led off the inning with a single.

LaThorpe advanced Carper to second with a perfect bunt and Carper then headed to third base on a single by Wiggins.

During the next at bat, Wiggins stole second base and on the delayed steal, Carper made his way home to give the Bruins a 2-1 lead.

Horizon loaded the bases in the top of the eighth, but only managed to walk in one run as Parke struck out two of the final four batters to get out of the inning.

Hanson and Wiggins had great defensive games in the outfield for the Bruins while Ryan LaThorpe made countless plays at short stop and Kennedy flashed his glove at first.

The Bruins only had five hits on the day, with Nelson, Kennedy, Carper, Wiggins and Hanson getting base hits.
