The 2007 Curry County Fair wrapped up Sunday afternoon with the demolition derby at the indoor arena at the Event Center on the Beach.

Destruction and mayhem filled the arena as five drivers smashed into each other for the entertainment of the bloodthirsty fans.

After one round of preliminary bashing, the five junkers competed to the death in the grand finale, where the last vehicle running was claimed the victor.

Lewie Bambauer of Orland, Calif., took first place in the event and grabbed the $1,000 grand prize.

Stuart Hoggatt of Bandon took second place, with a $300 prize.

A pair of Gold Beach boys took third and fourth place, with Keith Wright taking home $100 and David Dickerson grabbing $50.

Dickerson's car, the #420 Super Trooper, was voted the andquot;Best Appearing Carandquot; by the demolition derby fans.

On the previous evening, local drivers tested their skills in the Tuff Truck competition, navigating over an obstacle course in a timed event.

Shane Wallace took first place with a time of 37.97 seconds.

Tony Arneston came in second at 39.1, followed by Ron Righetti in third at 40.25.

The andquot;Most Spectacular Runandquot; award went to Tammy Ross in her truck andquot;Rogue Thunder.andquot;
