In their first game of the year, the JV girls' soccer team scored five second half goals to defeat the Illinois Valley Cougars 7-0 Monday afternoon.
Miriam Hernandez got the Bruins on the board first as she took a pass from Vaneesa Meirer in the middle and fired a shot in the bottom right corner for a 1-0 lead.
Hernandez then recorded an assist two minutes later as she found Sonja Gonzales for the Bruins' second goal of the game.
Ten minutes into the second half, Katherine Bones put the Bruins up 3-0 as she knocked home a deflected shot that was originally taken by Meirer.
A little bit later in the half, Meirer got a goal of her own as she sent a ball by the Cougar goalie to give the Bruins a four goal lead.
Gonzales scored her second goal of the game as she put home a rebound off of a Bones deflection.
Rachel Carrillo got in on the scoring as she put home a ball that was bouncing among defenders for awhile to give the Bruins a 6-0 lead.
The final goal of the game was scored by Bones, her second of the game, to give the Bruins the 7-0 lead.
Kelly Aldrich provided the big foot in the Bruin backfield to clear out unwanted balls while Emily Bottoms recorded the shutout in goal.
