VOLLEYBALL SWEPT BY DOUGLAS

By Josh Bronson

Pilot staff writer

A late collapse in game three cost the Bruins a chance to salvage a win as they were swept by the Douglas Trojans in three games (16-25, 17-25 and 22-25).

The Bruins (0-2, 4-4) struggled in games one and two with their movement and communication with one another and dropped the two games without a lot of fight.

In game three, the Bruins rallied around each other and played much better as a team.

Consecutive kills by Stephanie Kerr put the Bruins up 8-3.

But the Trojans (2-0, 8-2) rallied back to tie the game at 8-8.

A kill by Taylor Keys and an error by Douglas put the Bruins up 22-19 and in good position to finish the game.

However, the Trojans battled back and rattled off six straight points to steal the win and complete the sweep.

andquot;We didn't get our offense together tonight,andquot; Coach Lori Cooper said. andquot;We need to work on hustling and playing as a team. The bad passes will take care of themselves once we start moving and talking.andquot;

Kerr led the Bruins with 14 kills and six blocks on the night.

Dani Olson had three kills, Sarah Pate had two and Keys and Danielle Ambrose each had a kill apiece.

Molly Vance led the Bruins with 14 assists on the night.

The JV Bruins hung tight in game one, but faltered in the second game as they fell to the Trojans in two games (23-25 and 15-25).

The next game for the Bruins will be on Thursday, Sept. 27 against North Bend at 5:30 p.m.
