For the fourth straight game and the sixth time this year, the Brookings-Harbor High School girls' soccer team shut out their opponents as they defeated the Coquille Red Devils 3-0 Thursday afternoon.
The undefeated Bruins (8-0) still sit in first place in league and have outscored their opponents 25-2 this year.
andquot;We didn't have our best game, but we were still able to win,andquot; Coach Paul Angove said. andquot;We looked pretty tired, but that's going to happen. Sometimes you just hit a lull.andquot;
Despite the fatigue, the Bruins were still able to fend off the Red Devils and hold them scoreless.
andquot;It was kind of a wake up call for us,andquot; Angove said. andquot;We know that everyone is going to play us hard and that everyone wants to beat us.andquot;
The Bruins had numerous scoring opportunities, with several shots hitting the crossbar and posts.
Kara Miller scored her first goal of the year on an assist from Kayla Hamm for the first goal of the game and a 1-0 advantage for the Bruins.
With five minutes left in the first half, Ashley Juarez extended her scoring streak to eight games as she blasted a shot from 40 yards out to give the Bruins a 2-0 lead at the half.
The second half was played pretty evenly by both teams, with goalie Ellen Stadelman and the dominant Bruin defense stretching their shutout streak to over 360 straight minutes in eight games this season.
Jessie Goergen scored her team-leading 10th goal of the year with under a minute to play to secure the 3-0 win for the Bruins.
The next game for the Bruins will be against the Douglas Trojans on Monday, Oct. ,8 at 4:30 p.m. at home.
On Wednesday, Oct. 10, the Bruins will travel to take on the second place Glide Wildcats at 4:30 p.m.
