The Gold Beach Panthers took another step in the right direction toward a state championship as they defeated the Willamina Bulldogs 38-0 Saturday at Pete Susick Stadium in Coos Bay.
With the win, the Panthers (11-0) advance to the next round of the playoffs to face the Regis Rams on Saturday, Nov. 17 at 4 p.m. at Willamette University in Salem.
The match-up will be a clash of titans as the only two undefeated teams left at the 3A level battle it out to see who will advance.
While the Panthers have been the unanimous No. 1 team in the state all year, the undefeated Rams (11-0) have been on their heels at No. 2 for the majority of the season.
On Saturday, the Panthers plowed through the Willamina defense to take a 28-0 lead at the half.
Travis Moore scored on touchdown runs of 27 and 5 yards and Herbie Smith added a 34-yard touchdown run.
Quarterback Jeffrey Knox hit David Bonotto for a 43-yard touchdown pass and the final score of the half.
In the second half, Knox and Bonotto hooked up again, this time for a 37-yard touchdown.
Todd Martin also added a 31-yard field goal for the Panthers.
The Panthers got three interceptions on the day by Nathan Moore, Brandon Harding and Mackenzie Burdett, all of which led to Panther scores.
Smith led the Panthers on the ground with 106 yards rushing while Knox went 8-of-13 for 153 yards in the air, with Bonotto catching six of those passes for 111 yards.
