Records are dropping left and right this year for the Brookings-Harbor High School golf team.

Earlier this season, the Bruins shot the lowest score in program history with a 317 at Umpqua Resort in Sutherlin.

On Monday, the Bruins recorded the lowest score ever shot by any school at Salmon Run Golf Course as they took the Far West League (FWL) match with an impressive team score of 319.

andquot;They overcame some things on the front nine and showed a lot of character with their play on the back nine,andquot; Coach Bruce Alexander said.

The Bruins beat out second place North Bend, which finished the day with a 347, by 38 strokes.

Siuslaw placed third at 377, South Umpqua fourth at 423 and Sutherlin took fifth at 446.

The Bruins had the four lowest scores of the tournament, led by junior Jed Warren, who shot a match-low 75 for the day.

andquot;It's exciting to see Jed step up and shoot a 33 on the front nine,andquot; Alexander said.

Sophomore Wolfgang Jacquez came in second with an 80 and senior Chad Patton and junior David Wiggins each shot an 82.

andquot;David had some issues early on, but really pulled it out in the back nine,andquot; Alexander said.

Wiggins struggled with a 47 on the front nine, but then rebounded to shoot a match-low 35 on the final nine holes.

The fifth man for the Bruins was sophomore Cooper Howard, who finished in eighth place on the day with an 86.

But according to Alexander, the most impressive thing about these young men are their characters, not their scores.

andquot;Other coaches and parents don't talk to me about how good of players they are,andquot; Alexander said. andquot;People talk to me about how they carry themselves on the course.andquot;

Alexander said the team is doing an excellent job following the three Cs: Control yourselves, build Character and demonstrate Class.

andquot;Everyone seems equally impressed with their character, even above their scores,andquot; Alexander said. andquot;I just love these guys.andquot;

The Bruins will be participating in a Tournament of Champions on Thursday and Friday, April 17 and 18. The first round will be played at Sand Pines Golf Course in Florence on Thursday and round two will be held at Salishan Spa and Golf Resort located just south of Lincoln City.

On Monday, April 21, the Bruins will resume league play with a FWL match at Sand Pines.
