The Brookings-Harbor High School softball team had a tough time handling the league-leading Lancers as the Bruins were swept by South Umpqua 11-0 and 13-0 Friday afternoon.

andquot;We didn't play very well today,andquot; Coach Steve Padilla said. andquot;We just weren't mentally ready to play and it showed.andquot;

The Bruins (4-2, 8-8) dropped their first league games against the Lancers after winning the opening four league games.

South Umpqua shut down the Bruins in both games, holding the Bruins hitless in game won and limiting them to just two hits in game two.

Senior Brooke Blofsky and freshman Jillian McCool recorded the only Bruin hits. Senior Jessie Goergen also pitched both games for the Bruins.

andquot;We're a much better team than we showed today and we know it,andquot; Padilla said. andquot;We just didn't play like we're capable of playing.andquot;

The next game for the Bruins will be at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 22 against the Sutherlin at home.

JV Bruins fall twice

The JV softball team also ran into a tough Lancer squad as they dropped their home doubleheader by scores of 21-4 and 16-6.

andquot;As a team, we're improving every game,andquot; Coach Kelly Garvin said. andquot;They're doing a good job of taking we learn in practice and using it in the games.andquot;
