Be careful as school starts

The Curry Coastal Pilot

This is perhaps a timeworn but important message: As school starts up next week, we all need to be careful where cars and kids come close to each other.

First, the traffic patterns all over the community change over this weekend. Buses are out picking up students. Families are working out new schedules. There might be teen drivers learning the responsibilities that come with their new licenses and vehicles. New traffic patterns and parking rules are in place, particularly where there has been construction over the summer.

In addition, the days are getting shorter, so some of this activity is happening before dawn or after dark. Very soon winter weather will add to the dangers.

Vehicle safety is a concern both at school and at home; sadly, children are often victims in their own driveway.

Timeworn? Yes. But it's a message we all need to remember as school starts.
