Thanks for visiting, now go home
Not heartbroken over Wisconsin couple choosing to move elsewhere.
Visit often, enjoy the abundance of beauty and outdoor activities, then go home and enjoy being there.
Veterans Memorial worth supporting
At this particular time we are all deluged with requests for donations for many worthwhile causes and much-needed projects.
My wife and I find it very difficult deciding which and what we will be able to support each month. I am sure that all of you have experienced the same dilemma.
However, the Curry County Veterans Memorial Association is currently seeking donations for the development and construction of a Veterans Memorial in Curry County. As a veteran of World War II and as past State Commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, I respectfully ask all of you to consider, support and donate to this most significant project.
The new memorial will honor all those veterans who have served and those who are currently serving our country. Fundraising is underway. The project, which will occupy a beautiful site at the Port of Gold Beach, will cost about $100,000 to complete. There are several ways in which to donate to this memorial.
Commemorative 4 inch by 8 inch tiles will be a significant feature of this memorial. You may purchase a tile honoring a service member for $100. Donations in any amount toward the construction of the memorial will also be deeply appreciated.I have been active in veterans affairs since being honorably discharged from military service in 1946, having served in the European Theater during World War II. As a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion, the Disabled American Veterans and an honorary member of the Vietnam Veterans of America and having served on the National Council of Administration and the National Legislative Committee, I have taken great pride in working with the men and women who have served our country. I believe this project to be a fitting tribute to Curry County veterans who have so gallantly and faithfully served both in times of war and times of peace.
To make a donation or purchase a tile to be placed on the memorial please contact the Curry County Veterans Memorial Association, P.O. Box 186, Gold Beach, OR 97444. You may also email Rick Mahanay at firstname.lastname@example.org. For further information visit our website at www.currvcountyveteransmemonal.org or call Chairman Sam Vitale at 541-469-6443.
Thanks for remembering.

So many people in town love animals
I had the opportunity to walk in the Azalea Festival Parade this year as part of Paws on Parade for South Coast Humane Society. What a blast!
I would strongly recommend the experience to anyone who wishes to support the shelter. Next year should be even bigger and better. I was impressed with the number of businesses that sponsored us for the event and all of the individuals who made pledges for our walkers. It felt great to know that so many people in our town love animals!
I wanted to give special thanks to Ellis Bartreau who decorated our truck with all the gorgeous flowers. He was out at 3 in the morning before the parade to get everything perfect and then after all that work he still put on the R.U.F.U.S. (Rescue Us From Unwanted Situations) mascot costume to dance the parade route with us.
Thanks to everyone who helped make the parade such a great success for the shelter.

I'm proud to bean American
I had the privilege of riding on the Marine Corps League float in Brookings this Memorial Day.
It was a first for me. I have always been a spectator, watching and waving from the curb, but seeing the parade from the float made me proud to see the respect from the people, young and old, waving flags and placing their hands over their hearts, and the veterans saluting one flag and us, and I saw people on oxygen and in wheelchairs standing up and either waving or saluting. I feel very proud that you all came out to support our troops andndash; the ones that have gone before us and the ones still here.
If you want more information on joining the Marine Corps League, which is open to all branches of the service, you can call present Commander Linda at 541-412-9933 or email her at email@example.com, or any other service group. They would love to hear from you.
Again thank you all for making me feel really proud.
