Julian J. Parrino, of Brookings, passed away on Aug. 17, 2014, of complications following surgery.

He was born Oct. 5, 1929, in New Rochelle, New York.

Julian joined the U.S. Navy in 1954, where he served as a Lt. Commander and navigator. He married Dagmar Tausch in 1959, in Berlin, while stationed in Germany.

He later went to dental school in Missouri and was stationed at Camp Pendleton in Oceanside, California. In 1965 Julian left active duty and opened a dental practice in Yucaipa, California.

Julian enjoyed tennis, painting, camping with his family and baking pizzas in the backyard oven he built himself.

In 1989 he and Dagmar moved to Brookings, where he spent many happy years enjoying the coastal climate, gardening, woodworking and fishing on his small boat.

In his last decade of life Julian enjoyed flying radio controlled airplanes with his buddies.

Julian will be missed dearly by his family and friends.

Survivors include his daughters Renata Parrino of Warfordsburg, Pennsylvania, Erika Parrino and Rita Parrino Gibbs of Tucson, Arizona; grandson Harper Gibbs of Tucson; brother Vincent Parrino of Lakewood, Colorado; and his wife of seven years, Marsha E. Knox of Brookings.

He was preceded in death by his parents Mary Agnes and Joseph Parrino; brother Joseph Parrino; sister Annette Herrgesell; and wife Dagmar (Tausch) Parrino.

No service is planned.
