Loal A. Nichols, 54, of Brookings died unexpectedly July 20, 2014, at his home.

He was born Dec. 9, 1959, in Myrtle Point.

Loal grew up and lived most of his life in Oregon and Washington. He graduated from Brookings-Harbor High School in 1978.

Loal loved the outdoors and worked as a fisherman, logger, and construction operator. He loved to hunt, crab, fish, scuba dive, coin collect and was a well known "tinkerer."

He was a lifetime fan of the Seattle Seahawks and the Oregon Ducks. He was very well versed in current events and loved his History Channel. He never tired of driving up and down the Oregon and Washington coasts.

Survivors include his wife Sadie Lee Nichols; son Christopher Allen Nichols and his wife Brittany, grandchildren Jaistin, 5 years old, Kailee, 4 years old, and Peyton, 1 1/2 years old all of Seattle; father Larry Nichols of Coos Bay; brother Larry Dean Nichols of Olympia, Washington; sisters Sheryl Fonder of Albany and Kathy Chapman of Bend.

He was preceded in death by his mother Carolyn Nichols.

A memorial service was held Friday, July 25, at Smith River Community Shaker Church.
