June 30, 1947-June 28, 2014
Born Anna Charlene Hughes on June 30, 1947, in Fullerton, California, to John and Mary Hughes, Charlene passed away in her home in Gold Beach with her family and friend, Maryann Sierra, by her side at 8:20 p.m. on June 28, 2014.
In March 2014, Charlene was diagnosed with terminal cancer. This was the fourth time Charlene had been diagnosed with cancer since 2001.
She is survived by her husband, Phil Jones Sr.; daughter Tiffany Jones-Blackwell; son Phillip Jones Jr.; mother Mary Louise Hughes; and grandchildren Schuyler Choate, Courtney Jones, Dylan Jones and Dennis Brinson.
Charlene was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She loved being needed. She loved her family unconditionally, and devoted her life to her husband, children, and grandchildren. Charlene was "the tie that binds" the family. She loved her friends and had so many happy memories made with them.
Charlene and Phil have been together since they were 15 years old. They graduated from Porterville High School in 1965.
They were married in 1966 while Phil was on leave from the Navy during the Vietnam War. Charlene worked for the Tiara Beauty Salon as a hairdresser for almost 20 years. She then went on to become a dispatcher and records clerk for the Porterville Police Department - a job she loved. She retired in 2003. Charlene and Phil then traveled the United States in order to find the place they wanted to retire - Gold Beach became their home.
Charlene loved the beach and loved the fact they had a home with an ocean view to spend the remainder of their lives. She made several friends in Gold Beach and cherished the friendships she had made. Her daughter and son and all the grandchildren found their way to Gold Beach in order to be close to her and Phil Sr. This could not have made Charlene happier. All of her family was together again. She loved, doted on and spoiled her grandchildren. She lived to be an unforgettable grandmother, which she is, and always will be.
There will only be a private, family memorial for Charlene. She did not want a formal funeral service. However, if any family or friends would like to talk or share memories of her, her daughter can be contacted at 559-471-8979.
Redwood Memorial Chapel is assisting the family. Condolences may be expressed online at www.redwoodmemorial.net. Submitted by Redwood Memorial Chapel.
