Nov. 4, 1965-April 11, 2014

Glenda Sue Gilbert, 48, of Brookings, passed away April 11, 2014, in Gold Beach, following a battle with cancer.

Glenda was born Nov. 4, 1965, in Gold Beach, to William and Ann (Marsh) Smith.

She grew up and graduated from school there.

Glenda worked at many different places along the southern Oregon coast including the Port of Coos Bay, the Spinreel, Dick and Casey's, the ice house at the Port of Brookings Harbor and the U.S. Post Office in Brookings. But, she found her passion working with her dad, Bill Smith, aboard his fishing vessel, the Ann Me. Glenda was a hard worker and will be missed.

She married Mark L. Gilbert in 1990. He preceded her in death in 2000.

Survivors include her sons Andrew Gilbert of Brookings, Luke Gilbert and Nathaniel Gilbert, both of Gold Beach; mother Ann Smith of Gold Beach; brother Mark Smith of Gold Beach; half-brothers Gordon Smith of Bethel Island, Calif., Greg Smith of Monterey, Calif.; half-sister Tina Bennett of Bainbridge, Ga.; and granddaughter Roselynn Overdevest.

Glenda was preceded in death by her father William "Bill" Smith; and her husband Mark.

A memorial service will be on Saturday, May 3, at St. Timothy's Episcopal Church, 401 Fir St. in Brookings. The time of the service is pending. Rev. Bernie Lindley will officiate.
