Lynn J. Chandler, 96 died Dec. 13, 2013, at Gritman Medical Center in Moscow, Idaho. He was a longtime resident of Gold Beach, and formerly of Princeton, Idaho.

Lynn was born to Wesley and Ethel Vader Chandler Oct. 26, 1917, in Livona, N.D.

He was the third of seven children. Lynn went to school in North Dakota, graduating from the eighth grade.

Instead of going to high school he went to work for the Civilian Conservation Corps for three years. He worked several jobs to help his family; he moved to Princeton, to join them.

Lynn joined the U.S. Army and served his country from 1942 to 1945. He received an honorable discharge. He was awarded a 50-year membership in the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States on Nov. 30, 2013.

Lynn married Orvetta Tribble. They later divorced. They had twin sons Dennis and Duane. He married Thelma Smith, and they later divorced.

Lynn moved to Gold Beach, where he met Arlene Higgins. The couple celebrated 56 years of marriage in December.

He worked as a mechanic for several years at Chenny's Union Service in Gold Beach, until he built and operated his own shop. He retired Dec. 31, 1979. Lynn loved to fish and hunt. He caught many salmon from the ocean and the Rogue River.

At 61, he took and passed his aviation exam at the top of his class, and flew his own Cessna 172. Lynn loved working with wood, crafting beautiful clocks, jewelry boxes and several items from Myrtlewood. Family and friends all received handmade clocks. He sold many items in shops around town.

He is survived by his wife Arlene who resides at Clark House in Moscow; sons Dennis (Kay) and Duane (Janet) Chandler of Harvard, Idaho; sisters Nyla Macomber of Pendleton, and Marlene West of Gifford, Idaho. Also surviving are five grandchildren, 18 great- grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his sister Elsie Skipworth; brothers Melvin, Lawrence, and Aldan.

Cremation has taken place.

Interment will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 15, at Rogue River Cemetery, 28885 Hunter Creek Loop, Gold Beach.
