Emma L. MacPherson

Dec. 24, 1951-Feb. 23, 2014

Emma L. MacPherson, 62, of Gold Beach, passed away in her home on Feb. 23, 2014.

Emma was born Dec. 24, 1951, in Gold Beach to Raymond Stevens and Lucille (Wilson) Stevens. She grew up in Gold Beach, and lived the majority of her life there, only leaving for a brief period to study botany at Oregon State University in Corvallis.

Emma was an excellent student, and graduated second in her class as salutatorian in high school in 1970.

Shortly after graduation, she married Joseph MacPherson, and together they had two sons, whom she loved and adored. She had Christian beliefs, and often had fellowships at her late sister Connie's house. She was active in 4-H, loved plants, and was an excellent cook with hundreds of her own recipes. She also enjoyed the outdoors, bird watching, knitting and sewing.

A successful entrepreneur, Emma owned and ran her own restaurant, the Golden Egg, in Gold Beach for 23 years before retiring due to health reasons. The restaurant was her life, and she devoted much of her time and energy into running it.

Emma is survived by her sons James C. MacPherson of Gold Beach, and Mark MacPherson of Coos Bay; her siblings Raymond, Anita and Gloria; her close friends Jenelle and Ros of California; and three grandsons: Aiden and Noah MacPherson, and Tyler Smith. She was preceded in death by her sister Connie Halcomb; her husband Joseph; and her parents.

A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 8, at Redwood Memorial Chapel, 1020 Fifield St., Brookings.
